Posted by Simon Harrison on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, In : Products

A slip lead is great for dogs that either like to pull their head out of their collar or for when they don't need to wear a collar such as working and hunting dogs. My dog slip leads have a handle at one end and a slipped loop at the other end. This makes my slip leads great for dog walkers with a variety of dog breeds and for kennel and veterinary assistants that need to move and walk many different dogs.
This lead is handmade from full grain English Bridle leather in London Tan. This makes f...

A solid Brass Swage buckle sets the Rochester Leather belt apart from the rest.
Dark Stain Oak bridle leather from J&FJ Bakers in Devon is used to make your made to order leather belt. Hand cut and finished to your exact size means that you get the best fit for your waist.
Three lines of Oakside's signature hand stitching compliment the Rochester leather belt's equestrian roots. Notice that the stitching runs along the length of the leather? This keeps the strength of the leather by not making ...

Convertible Length Leather Dog Lead

Posted by Simon Harrison on Friday, August 11, 2017, In : Products
Another one of my leather dog leads that can change its length. This one can quickly change its length from long to short by halving its length.
Made from a single piece of Bridle Back Oak Bark Tanned English Bridle Leather from J&FJ Bakers. Keeping it a single piece ensures that the leathers strength is not compromised. Maybe a good idea as this lead was made for a Police German Shepherd!
To shorten the lead it is simply pulled through the ring near the trigger hook where it jams against the r...

Leather Cleaning

Posted by Simon Harrison on Thursday, August 10, 2017,

When your dog's collar or any other leather starts to look a bit passed it. It probably just needs a good clean and conditioning.
Give your leather a wipe over to remove most of the dirt and allow to dry. You don't need to 'scrub' it hard just remove the worst of it.
I then use Renapur. A small amount on a sponge is all that you need. Simply rub it into the leather. Your leather doesn't have to be really clean and it can still be a bit damp. Renapur will remove any left over dirt and condition ...

Custom Dog Tag

Sometimes you might just need an additional tag ring on your dog collar. These can be used to attach your dog's ID tag. Having a separate ring can stop you accidentally attaching your lead to the tags split ring and breaking it. At 1/2 inch wide it is perfect for just that job.

A small piece of leather is thinned down and stitched by hand to the back of your dog's collar. Although it is not meant to hold your dog it probably would!

Fancy Leather Dog Collar

Posted by Simon Harrison on Saturday, August 5, 2017, In : Products
This is a different collar design for me. Rather than having leather keeper loops the fancy collar uses a solid brass fancy loop to keep the point under control.
A reverse turn keeps the Dee ring, buckle, and loop away from your dog leaving a smoother interior with fewer disturbances making for a more comfortable design for your dog.
A West End roller buckle eases buckling with plenty of room for the leather. When buckled on the middle hole the reverse turn is covered by the leather.
This Collar...

Why carry 2 leads for different scenarios when you can carry just the one!
My multi-Length leather dog lead can quickly change from short, to medium, to long with just a simple change of a trigger hook.
Short for heel work, Medium when you need that control but your dog has a bit of free range, and long for allowing your dog their maximum movement. A favourite lead for Police dogs and search dogs.

Extra-Wide Dog Collar

Posted by Simon Harrison on Thursday, August 3, 2017, In : Products

Some big dogs may need a collar that is wider than 1 inch but don't need a a massive buckle to go with it. My extra-wide leather dog collar uses a 1 inch buckle and dee ring that tapers out to a wide back. This means that the part of the collar at the front is narrower which can give the dog more room to move their head down.
London colour Full Grain Leather is used on this collar. The leather is from J&FJ Bakers & Co in Devon, it is Oak barked tanned English Bridle Leather, perfect for your d...
